AED/MI HEARTSafe

Community safety and preparedness is huge to us in Kentwood Public Schools and our health services team plays a huge role.

Having AEDs on site helps us ensure we are prepared for any cardiac event that may occur. With 38 AEDs throughout our district we have the right equipment in place. Equally important is having trained staff. Our nurses work with their buildings to establish Medical Emergency Response Teams (MERT) and provide training and drills on how to handle and prepare for medical emergencies. Our nurses are also CPR instructors and provide this training to staff.  All MERT members are required to be CPR certified and each building holds two MERT drills a year.

To help further our dedication to preventing sudden cardiac death many of our buildings have gone above and beyond to be designated as an MI HEARTSafe School. You can learn more here: MI HEARTSafe Schools

Currently the following buildings have received this designation:

  • Challenger Elementary
  • Crossroads Alternative HS
  • Endeavor Elementary
  • Explorer Elementary
  • KPS Main Campus Early Childhood Center
  • Lifelong Learning Center
  • Townline Elementary
