KPS Plow/Salt Information
Plow Crews:
We will plow over 2” of snow- overnight before school.
We will plow when directed to plow by Administration/Facilities leadership/ direction.
We may only plow drives, bus loops if snow arrives late.
Snow Removal:
We will always do our best to avoid leaving “plow spill” on curbs, sidewalks, and edges.
If we have already plowed or salt has been put down:
Please do your best to not shovel and/ or snow blow your sidewalks into the drives, bus loops, parent-student drop-off/ pick-up areas.
Adjustments for removal of snow:
At times there will be a need for adjustments to removal of snow.
We will evaluate the following areas to ensure the best removal of snow at each building:
Snowbanks, curbs, playground, and service drives
At that time we will do a post clean-up then finish any building on the following night after the snowfall.
PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING:
All of the “best” plans can change to circumstances beyond our control!
Plans will be adjusted as needed due to the following items:
Change in the weather.
Time of the storm.
Amount of snow that has fallen.
Staffing
Working Equipment
*NOTE: We start at the buildings according to the time it takes to plow at each building. At times this may make it seem that areas were not plowed. Continuous snowfall throughout the evening can contribute to this concern. Please know that we are always working to get every building ready to ensure that school can open for staff and students.
Salt Protocol & Information
Kentwood Public Schools has made moves to better support salting of the district both on plow nights and when there are ice concerns. We currently will be using a 2-Truck System to provide a better melt time at all buildings. This approach will support bus drives, bus loops, and at times, sidewalks. This method will help to control usage of salt and also be better stewards of the environment.
