Julie Makarewicz | The Grand Rapids Pres... KENTWOOD -- Meadowlawn Elementary students could find the way to school paved with new sidewalks, a crosswalk and additional lights this spring. The school district partnered with the city in obtaining a Michigan Department of Transportation "Safe Routes to School" grant. City officials say they hope the $71,135 award is only the first of the grant money. |
Jean MacDonald, August 05, 2010 4:16 p.m. It's that time of year when the air crisps, crowds start to gather, smelly socks and small black pellets from the turf accumulate on my floors, and there is a thrill in the air that can only signal that football is about to begin. I am an avid football fan, a crazy football mom (I have 4 kids who play on the middle school, high school and college levels) and one who looks forward to the proverbial "bleacher butt" --- I love the game! It is a passion! However this year it's a bit different. Although the passion is still there, the excitement is building, and the black pellets are still covering the floors, my heart aches. My dear friend of over 25 years will not be a part of it all. Coach Jeff Bosma will watch from the heavens this season. Jeff passed away earlier this spring, and I miss my friend.
